When Oldsmobile introduced the Toronado for the 1966 model year, it became the first American front-wheel-drive car in over three decades â?" the first since the Cord 810 of 1936. That alone would have earned it a place in history. But the engineering team at Oldsmobile went further, pairing the front-wheel-drive system with a 425 cubic inch V8 producing 385 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. To route that much power through the front wheels required an entirely new drivetrain architecture. |

What the photos show
- White paint is glossy and straight in the studio set, chrome bumpers and trim bright, correct steel wheels with trim rings and thin whitewalls — a clean, correct-looking first-year Toronado.
- Red interior is excellent in close-up: pleated seats look fresh with no splits, door cards and dash complete and tidy; a signature is scrawled on the glovebox lid, which the photos alone can't authenticate — treat it as decoration.
- Engine bay is honest and correct-looking: the big Toronado-lettered air cleaner over the 425, factory hardware throughout, with dust and age in the corners rather than a detailer's shine.
- Cowl/body tag is photographed (codes not reproduced here) — the right kind of photo for checking paint and trim against the car.
- Underside is photographed several times and reads honest: aged, grimy hardware, CV boots and oil pan all visible with surface dirt and light corrosion on fittings, but no obvious rot or damage in these frames — an original underbody, not a restored one.
- No legible odometer photo in the sample, and no trunk shot.
Money: at $35,997 the topside is strong and the underside is honestly shown — this is the best-documented car in its band; the remaining checks are the FWD drivetrain's health on a drive, not cosmetics.
