About this car
1971 Dodge Challenger listed on eBay in Celeste, Texas. Listing shows Automatic transmission, Red exterior. Asking price $49,500 on eBay.
What the photos show
- Another honest project from the same Mopar barn: red '71 Challenger, dusty and faded, rust breaking through on the rear quarters and around the panels, front bumper chrome oxidised and dull.
- The value story is photographed: the door sticker shows an 11-70 build date and a VIN with the JS23V prefix — a Challenger R/T with the 440 Six-Pack engine code — and the tattered broadcast sheet is photographed with the car.
- Engine bay shows the big-block in place with its multi-carb intake, but everything is corroded, the battery tray is rusted through, and nothing has turned in a long time by the look of it.
- A block casting close-up is photographed for the numbers checkers; the trunk floor is surface-rusted but appears whole.
- Interior is rough — dusty black seats, missing/sagging headliner with the bare roof structure showing, rusty package tray.
- On the lift the underside carries surface rust across the floors and axle but reads intact rather than holed at this distance.
Money: at $49,500 you are buying the JS23V VIN and the broadcast sheet, not the condition — verify the block matches, then price a full restoration on top; the photos hide nothing, which is in this car's favour.
