About this car
1978 Chevrolet Corvette at GR Auto Gallery in Commerce Township, MI, $17,900. Black over Red, 11,253 miles, Automatic
What the photos show
- From ten feet the black paint is deep and glossy and the red interior pops — but this is a car the seller's own close-ups grade honestly, and up close the finish is tired.
- Seven of the 16 photos viewed are ruler close-ups of paint flaws: crazing and checking in the black finish, a long crack in the paint on one panel, scratches and swirls across the panels, chips along the edges and a clouded, chipped mirror housing. In aggregate that's a repaint budget, not a polish.
- Red interior glimpsed in the exterior shots looks bright and tidy, but no cabin photo appears in the 16 viewed.
- Engine bay is driver-grade: chrome air cleaner and finned covers over an otherwise workaday bay with surface grime — dressed on top, honest underneath.
- Underside can't be judged — it doesn't appear in the 16 viewed.
Money: at $17,900 price this as a good-looking driver that needs paint — the close-ups say the black finish is living on borrowed time, so the negotiation starts with a respray quote, not the showroom shine.
